It is said that when it rains it pours, and this weekend is turning out to be no different.
I was on my way to see Kinsey at Key Cinema with friends this afternoon when my friend Tony got a phone call. According to the caller, the 501 Tavern burned to the ground. Strangely enough, I was at that very bar last night with Tony and his partner Jason, prior to the drama documented earlier this morning.

Turns out that the building did not burn to the ground (imagine that), nor did the two other buildings (one being an apartment building and the other a senior citizens center). The bar was closed, too, so no one was in there when it happened.

I took a picture with my cell phone that shows where the truck’s wheel fell off parking lot wall.

What you see above is my car parked in the spot where last night a cadillac was parked, and who’s trunk had the bumper of the small truck resting on it. You see see the black fence laying on the ground, which, of course, we members of the association will have to pay to have it fixed.
Lovely, yes?

The drama is finally over, nearly three hours since it started.
IPD showed up pretty quick, and so did the tow company. They pulled the truck out without further damaging the other car, thankfully, but at a cost of $80.
My neighbor is a good guy, in my opinion, and I think he will pay me back. He thanked me continuously because he could not have paid for this. If he doesn’t pay me, it is not a big deal. It’s only money, and someone had to pay it.
What really bothers me is how the fence posts which went along the wall were pulled out so easily. They were not in the cement very well. I’ll have to show a picture of the parking lot so you can see.

No luck.
The tow truck guy showed up, but he can’t do anything because there has been property damage, and a police report needs to be filed. I’ve called the non-emergency number for IPD and they’re sending someone out here.
More waiting. Will update later.

I went out tonight with friends, and then later went to the Red Eye Care for a little breakfast. I wish I had simply come home instead.
So, I parked my car and had one of my neighbors (one of the people still renting) ask me if I can help push his truck out from being stuck. Being a good guy, I said, “sure, no problem.”
I’ll try to explain the situation. He basically attempted to drive his truck up this unpaved, snow-covered driveway, which takes you to part of the common area and around to the back of his townhome. On the left are trees, and on the right is a concrete wall, which holds up the dirt. On the other side of the wall is a parking lot. The wall increases in height as you go along the driveway. I know you’re probably unable to picture it, but I’ll try to take a picture tomorrow.
He asked me to drive my car up the driveway to push his truck forward, but when I did that, it simply fell back and got caught even worse than before. The bumper is now resting on the back of another car.
The only way this thing is coming out is by having a tow truck pull it forward. Of course, he doesn’t have the $75 to pay for it. So, I offered to do it, on the belief that he is a nice guy (who has, in the past, shoveled snow off my porch out of the goodness of his heart) and will pay me back. I called the tow truck company who was reluctant to come out after I explained the situation, but thankfully they’re on their way. They should be here in about ten minutes.
I’ll update you later.

I was inspired by mns to put my iSight to good use by putting it online. I am using the EvoCam software to take snapshots of the video and post them to my server here at home. You can use the “Spy Cam” link on the sidebar to view it.
I only intend to show my desktop and keyboard. I’m not interested in putting myself on it because that would require that I turn on lights, and I prefer to keep this room as dark as humanly possible. So that means no special requests, please.

Since several folks have inquired about the status of my new job, I figure it is a good time to go ahead and upate everyone.
Everything is just fine.
I’m enjoying it quite a bit and am looking forward to being there for a while. I’m very busy, but I find it much more fun and challenging than Webexcellence, where I felt unmotivated and bored most of the time.
