All Praise Electric Cold!

The air conditioner I have been using for the past couple of years (which I got used from my sister) just couldn’t keep my bedroom cold.  So, I bought a new unit and it is wonderful.  I am so happy I don’t have to sleep in my own sweat now.

I bought a Frigidaire FAX054P7A for just over $100 at Best Buy.  If you have a reasonably-sized bedroom that you need to keep cool, this is your unit, especially for the price.

Back From Chicago, And Late Talking About It

Man, it sure takes me a while to get around to updating this blog sometimes. Well, anyway, I had a fabulous time in Chicago this past weekend, so let me update you all.

Tony, Jason C., and I drove up to Chicago in the afternoon on Friday, making it to Noodles in the Pot in Lincoln Park in time for an early dinner. It’s a fantastic restaurant.

That night I met up with Shane in Boystown. We checked in to a hotel near the Beltmon L station, which was close enough for us to hear the “ding-dong” from the trains as the doors closed. It didn’t bother me. After all, I grew up near the airport and across the street from Interstate 70.

Shane and I started the evening eating some food out. We originally wanted to eat at Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba, but it was too busy. Instead, we ate at this little falafel shop near the hotel, which turned out quite nice.

The first bar we hit was SPIN. We spent time getting drunk, watching music videos, and such. Before we left, we caught the entirity of the shower contest, in which volunteers take off their clothes, wrap themselves in a towel, march up on stage, and dance under a shower — all in the name of prize cash money. One of the winners (it was a tie, you know) was a big woman with huge floppy titties who was obviously not afraid to show off her junk.

After SPIN, Shane and I made it to Berlin, which was where we got really drunk and started dancing. I’m unsure if Shane was keeping the beat, but he was sure having a great time, and so was I. The music there is fantastic, so I can’t wait to go back.

The next day, Shane and I parted ways, after having breakfast with Jason C. and Jason G. Afterwards, I hung out with Tony in Boystown, and then, in the early evening, we met up with some friends of Tony and Jason for dinner.

I ended up back at the hotel in downtown (where the roommates were staying) and crashed out. I didn’t get out of bed until the next morning, feeling well-rested. It was probably the most sleep I’ve had in a long time.

After cleaning up, I caught up with Tony and Jason at Dunkin’ Donuts. I had some coffee and two glazed donuts. And they were good!

So, after spending forever and a day, trying to find a picnic in Lincoln Park and having a little spat about it, the three of us (me, Tony, and Jason) decides to just eat at Noodles in the Pot, again, and then head home.

That’s really about it.

Big Dinner

We’ve apparently spent enough money with a certain vendor at work to justify a dinner at the Oceanaire.  I can taste the crab cake now, with lumps of fabulous crab meat barely held together.

Man, I’m hungry.

Back From Decatur

Shane and I had a wonderful time together this past weekend!

Before heading to Decatur, we met up in Champaign for dinner. We dined at this Italian restaurant where his mother used to take him when he was a kid. It was a nice place, and my chicken parmesan was yummy, too.

On Saturday, we ventured back to Champaign, spending a lot of time in a couple crusty used bookstores. These shops had more than just books to offer; they had vintage photos, old cameras, old penny postcards, and many other hidden treasures. It was totally my kind thing.

That evening we cooked dinner. It wasn’t anything impressive: marinated chicken, mashed potatoes, and asparagus, but it sure tasted good.

(I’m pretty sure it is the exact same meal I made the last time I cooked anything of significance which wasn’t frozen or warmed in the microwave.)

On Sunday, after going out for brunch, Shane and I went back to his house and watched Clockwatchers. It is a personal favorite of mine; Shane seemed to like it, too.

Anyway, Shane and I will be seeing each other again this coming weekend in Chicago. I can’t wait.

There’s a new Apple Store opening in midtown Manhattan and it is to be open 24×7x365. I intend to visit, preferrably late at night.

There are more photos over at AppleInsider.

A Theatre Must Not See

Tonight I saw Triple Espresso at IRT.  It had some really good moments: magic tricks and shadow puppets, but I couldn’t wait for the show to end.  I guess I am just not in to slapstick comedy.

A Bit of Unattributed Fame

Last week I received an email on Flickr from a representative of the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association (the folks who run www.indy.org), asking if they could use one of the photos (below) I took at last year’s Strawberry Festival for their online events calendar.

Of course, I said yes, and this morning I received an email with the URL to the calendar entry.

Okay, who wants to touch me?

Mission: Impossible III

I saw Mission: Impossible III with my roommates last night at the theatre at Glendale Mall.

I wouldn’t call it much of a great movie, but it was fun and definitely entertaining.  I must admit that I’ll probably forget the entire plot within about 30 days.
