A few weeks ago while I was at Chicago O’Hare Airport, I got a phone call from Gregory telling me that they were standing in front of some Wiis and asked if I wanted one. Of course, I did!

So now I’m the proud owner of a genuine Nintendo Wii. This is the first game console I’ve owned since the original Nintendo Entertainment System I got for Christmas in 1986.

Anyway, if any of you have one and want to be Wii friends and stuff, here’s my information.

Wii Number: 2643-3117-6543-0061

I’ve also been playing a ton of Mario Kart and am quite good at it. So, if you want to play me sometime, here’s my friend ID for that.

Mario Kart: 0430-9292-5242

Remember that you need to send me your information, as well, in order for this to work. Either email it to me or post it in the comments.

It should be noted that we sat in the very back row of the theatre, which probably kept any of us from getting motion sickness due to the hand held camera footage. On the other hand, I don’t usually get sick from that kind of stuff anyway, but sitting in the back of the theatre certainly helps, according to what I’ve been reading.

I’ve recently started playing EVE Online.

For those of you who’ve never heard of it, I quote the article on Wikipedia.

EVE Online is a player-driven persistent-world massively multiplayer online game set in a science fiction space setting. Players pilot a wide array of customizable ships through a universe comprising over five thousand solar systems. Most solar systems are connected to one or more other solar systems by means of jump gates. The solar systems can contain several entities including but not limited to: moons, planets, stations, asteroid belts and complexes.

I appreciate that it isn’t a traditional RPG. No more level grinding! All skills are bought and trained in real-time, regardless of whether you’re logged in to the server or not. This also means that it is impossible for someone to join the game and power-level over a weekend. Just can’t happen, making it a game for the patient player.

There’s also just one server for everyone called Tranquility. It makes for one big cohesive universe, and you know that any of your friends who play are right there with you. That’s quite a feat of systems engineering, if you ask me, because no one else seems to do that in the world of major MMORPGs.

Anyway, if you’re looking for something new and fun, I suggest giving it a try; there’s a free trial that is adequate to get a good feel for the game. Also, if there are any of you who already play the game, please let me know. Maybe we can party sometime?

I don’t have tons to report here, but here are a few important things to document.

My friends Andy P. and Laura N. got married two weekends ago. It was a beautiful ceremony (especially her dress) at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. The electricity went out a few hours before the wedding, but everything came back on literally one minute before Laura was to walk down the aisle. Couldn’t have been better timing!

I’ve started playing EVE Online.

Work still sucks, but not anywhere near as bad as it did a few weeks ago.

I saw They Might Be Giants a few weeks ago. They were amazing! I especially loved the second finale where Dan Miller (the guitarist) rocked out and acoustic guitar for about five minutes before the rest of the band came out to perform Istanbul.

Went out Saturday night with some friends: Cara, Daniel, and Cara’s friend Katie. We had a nice dinner at Santorini’s and then danced the night away at Talbot Street.

That’s all for now.

Friday night was the opening of my friend Tony’s one-man show: Lies My Parents Told Me. We all really enjoyed the show, especially me, and I’m proud that Tony was finally able to pull it off. It’s been in the works for a couple of years. Check out the review linked below.

Review: Lies My Parents Told Me

It’s running until September 22, so check it out!

Saturday afternoon was spent with Andy and Laura. Another friend of theirs threw a wedding shower (gender inclusive) in Craig Park down in Greenwood.

It’s a fiesta!

Afterwards, we went and had some drinks and hit the movie theatre. We ended up seeing Bourne Ultimatum, which wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I wouldn’t call it amazing, but it was fun and kept me drawn into the story.

On Sunday, I went with my family to a fish fry put on by some old friends of the family. They lived a few houses down from where I grew up. Their sons and I were very good friends when we were younger, especially Eric.

The one show we all really enjoyed was Stand-Up Monkey Poet by Matt Panesh from Manchester, England. Everyone found his performance to be intelligent, witty, and hilarious.

YouTube: Matt Panesh – Monkey Poet, Live @ the Royal Exchange Theatre

After the Louisville crew headed home, I spent a bunch of time with Andy P. and Laura. Whenever I spend time with them, I’m reminded how much of a great couple they make, and it makes me a bit jealous; however, I adore them both and look forward to their wedding in November.

Last — but not least — I got to spend a lot of time with Daniel. His primary reason for visiting Indiana was to see his family, but he took spare time Friday night and Sunday to spend time with yours truly. I’m glad he made time to hang out because I probably won’t get to see him again until November.

Work has been a ball buster this week! We had a big outage that affected a lot of customers. Fortunately, I wasn’t much involved in the restoration of services (until I did some work to clean up the aftermath the next day), but I sure felt the stress of it all.

As for my weekend, Lisa, Jim, and some other folks are coming in to Indianapolis tomorrow to attend the Fringe Festival. No idea what we’ll see, but the beauty of the Fringe is that you can figure out when you’re there and be spontaneous.

Daniel is coming into town this weekend. I’ll be seeing twice, actually: tonight and Sunday. I haven’t seen him since June, so I’m very excited to spend some time with him.

Preparations are underway for the upcoming concert on Thursday, to kickoff the 2007 NFL season. The show will feature Faith Hill and Kelly Clarkson, and will be free to the public.

It’s going to be right on the south side of the monument, and it starts right at 5:00 PM, so I haven’t decided if I’m going to work from home and avoid everything, or if I’ll go to the office and watch the festivities from above.
