Depeche Mode – Enjoy the Silence

This isn’t the official video of Enjoy the Silence walking around the countryside dressed up like a king, but instead an alternate version filmed on top of the World Trade Center in Manhattan.

Here’s the official video, too, for the hell of it.

I Am The World Trace Center – No Expectations

Continuing with the WTC theme, here is a band actually called I Am The World Trade Center. I have had this album for a few years now and really enjoy this song and the track after it called Great Escape.

Etienne Daho – Au Commencement

For my 27th birthday, a friend bought me a martini mixing set which included a compilation CD that had this song on it. I’ve liked it ever since.

Halcali – Giri Giri Surfirder

Taking us to the other side of the planet, we have Halcali.

I haven’t really found anyone else who likes this video. None-the-less, I think the music is catchy and the video to be comical, in that quirky way that the Japanese embrace aspects of American pop culture.

Cut Copy – Saturdays

In my previous music video article, I included one of my favorite tracks by Cut Copy. Well, here is the first song I discovered by the band, which is on the same album as Futures and still one of my favorites.

Gary Jules – Mad World

Lastly, I give you Gary Jules’ cover of Mad World, originally by Tears for Fears. You’ll recall hearing this song at the end of the movie Donnie Darko, which I’m sure you’re cool enough to have seen.

That’s all for now.

Charlotte Gainsbourg – The Operations

This was recommended by my friend Vincent just recently, and I totally dig it.

Hot Chip – And I Was A Boy From School

I listen to this song way too much, and the video is neat-o. Also reminds me of my friend, Jordan.

Rabbit in Red – Postpartum And The Albatross

This music video was actually directed by my friend Devin in Brooklyn, New York. He went to school with the folks in the band, and back years ago he loaned me the CD. It’s a great album and a few of the tracks come up in shuffle mode from time to time.

Fionn Regan – Put A Penny In The Slot

This was recommended to me by my friend Shaun. He knows Fionn, who is from Ireland, but currently lives and records in the United Kingdom.

Cut Copy – Future

This is my most favorite track off Cut Copy’s Bright Like Neon Love album.

Cansei De Ser Sexy – Alala

I have absolutely no memory of discovering this video, but I like the song a lot.

Röyksopp – Remind Me

This one’s a bit old, but one of the coolest videos I’ve ever seen.

Titus Jones – Gimme More Shoes

Lastly — but hardly least — I present you a mash-up of Britney Spears and Kelly.

That’s all for now.

Recent Happenings

I don’t have tons to report here, but here are a few important things to document.

  • My friends Andy P. and Laura N. got married two weekends ago. It was a beautiful ceremony (especially her dress) at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. The electricity went out a few hours before the wedding, but everything came back on literally one minute before Laura was to walk down the aisle. Couldn’t have been better timing!
  • I’ve started playing EVE Online.
  • Work still sucks, but not anywhere near as bad as it did a few weeks ago.
  • I saw They Might Be Giants a few weeks ago. They were amazing! I especially loved the second finale where Dan Miller (the guitarist) rocked out and acoustic guitar for about five minutes before the rest of the band came out to perform Istanbul.
  • Went out Saturday night with some friends: Cara, Daniel, and Cara’s friend Katie. We had a nice dinner at Santorini’s and then danced the night away at Talbot Street.

That’s all for now.

Dark Lord of the Blues Harp

I’ll post something of some relative substance soon; however, in the meantime, this video will have to get you through the day, for now.

New Order Has Broken Up

Jason C. sent me this article.

Link: New Order Has Broken Up

New Order is one of my favorite bands of all time and it is really sad to hear that they’re no longer together. I never got a chance to see them perform live, but at least I have some of their concerts on DVD.
